Cuomo simply ignored the growing scandal and hoped it would blow over. For now, that appears to be what Biden is doing.
That, or he’s taking another nap.
CNN has been refreshingly strident – took nearly half the article before they started talking about the Republicans and the first four paragraphs are all about Biden and not a bit kind. Other left leaning outlets have also been critical. And least we forget the debacle of Brian Williams on MSNBC trying to carry water for the administration – with a guest who was having none of it. Even when the legacy media wants to be good little doggies, things aren’t working out.
That’s the critical point – if the media can’t or won’t cover for Biden then it’s just a matter of time before he’s forced from office. Just like Cuomo, there are far too many victims now who will not forget – and will not quit. Afghani immigrants to the US have been protesting outside the White House. Sure, it’s only a few hundred – but there were only less than a dozen for Cuomo.
Biden didn’t have a lot of political capital to begin with – a campaign that basically ran itself and hovered around not being the other guy. Pretty much how he got the nomination as well – he wasn’t Bernie. Well, he’s not Bernie and he’s not Trump – and he’s not got much else going for him. That does not make for a great defensive political position when you just screwed up.
It’s too early to tell for sure. Biden might get his act together long enough to survive this crisis – unlikely as that may be. Biden might simply wait out the week then dump the whole mess in Harris’ lap – bit of a toss up on that one. Or he may try to fight it out to the bitter end and have a dementia episode in front of the cameras again, forcing the Democrat’s hand. Kinda leaning toward that last one.
Biden is back at Camp David. Maybe he’s coming up with a brilliant – or at least some – strategy to work his way out of this mess. More likely he’s taking a nap while his staff run around like headless chickens.
The long game may not be very long.
