Georgia: Why Republicans Hate Their Base

This is actually nothing new. Originally – at least in this party system – the Republicans were the party of the rich, the elite, the businessman and the fiscal conservative. In the Seventies, this began to shift as fewer middle class and virtually the entire South felt betrayed by the heretofore working class/middle class representative Democrats. That bit about the South is included because it is a good object lesson for the modern Republicans. See, Civil Rights as an issue … Continue reading “Georgia: Why Republicans Hate Their Base”

Republicans Take Control of the House!

November 17, 2022 The first announcements broke early Wednesday but confirmation reports didn’t come until Wednesday evening. Fox didn’t show the 218 count until this morning. The media covered Trump’s announcement that he is running for president extensively, but barely a whimper about the upset. Oh well, it only took eight days to find out. Isn’t twenty-first century tech great? I decided to delay my post until I had confirmation. I am not yet willing to analyze the midterms mostly … Continue reading “Republicans Take Control of the House!”

Stop Panicking. Democrats Just Can’t Count

The margin will be narrower than I’d thought but it seems very unlikely Republicans won’t take the House. The chances of taking the Senate are still decent. Can we please stop acting like the world is ending? Once the results ACTUALLY come in, we need to take a hard look at what exactly happened here. I’d love to blame the polls but since I wasn’t using them, that would be silly. The results we have so far do cast a … Continue reading “Stop Panicking. Democrats Just Can’t Count”

And the Winner is… Please Stand By

You’re not going to like my take on the midterms right now. It is too early to analyze the results – or lack thereof – correctly. Therefore, I’m not going to offer an analysis at this time. Once the results are in and events shake out over the next three to four days, I’ll have something to work with and do a reasonable analysis. I know, lots and lots of talking heads are telling you all about the disaster or … Continue reading “And the Winner is… Please Stand By”

If You Like Things the Way They are, Don’t Vote

If you’re happy with the system and the administration, stay home. Do nothing. Watch reality TV instead of being involved in reality. Now, if you like the admin but think it could be better, vote. If you are in the majority that is displeased with the admin, vote. Not voting is dumb. The admin is going to take low turnout as approval. This is true in 2022 and will be in 2024, 2026, 2028, 2030 ad infinitum (or at least … Continue reading “If You Like Things the Way They are, Don’t Vote”

Red Wave

There is absolutely nothing nail biting about this year’s midterms. Now, that doesn’t mean they aren’t important. heck, they are likely to be historic. But this is one of the very rare times when the outcome was predictable nearly a year ago. if you haven’t guessed, the Republicans win. I’m aware of the polls because I keep up with guys who analyze them. The polls are doing exactly what was expected, showing some weakening leading into September and a resurgence … Continue reading “Red Wave”

Desperation 101

Today class, we will learn about what to do when your political party is in deep trouble with the voters. First, distract the voters from whatever you did to make them mad. This is a lot easier when you haven’t made them mad with almost everything you did, but it’s too late to worry about that now. Try things like: politically persecuting an opponent; persecute everyone you can who is tied to that opponent, no matter how remotely (especially good … Continue reading “Desperation 101”

We Have the Power!

With apologies to He-Man fans, He-Man isn’t the power, we are! The next couple of months are going to be fun in a riding a bucking horse sort of way. The Lamestream media is going to go all out to convince you, Gentle Voter, that the tide has turned and the Democrats will survive, if not reign supreme. The Establishment knows best and will take care of everything so just get all discouraged and stay home. It would be refreshing … Continue reading “We Have the Power!”

On Your Mark!

The horses are turning for home! Okay, yeah, I just mixed the metaphor. But in a way, both are correct. The real midterm race begins now. But since the horses have been galloping around for the last eight months it’s also the final few furlongs heading into the election. Either way, this is where it gets interesting. Polls are still garbage. Media polls are big piles of garbage. But to the extent that they do still work when done by … Continue reading “On Your Mark!”

What Do We Do Once We Win?

Any other time I would still be telling you it’s much too early to call the general election. Any other time, a centrist nation doesn’t take a lot to shove things in a different direction so six months out is an eternity. Not this time. A war, C19 redux, and Republican division – ordinarily, any one of these would be enough to buy the Democrats support. The war especially should normally benefit the party in power. But none of that … Continue reading “What Do We Do Once We Win?”
