How Polarized is the US Really?

Not very by American standards. Mind you, what passes as normal American politics would collapse most other governments. We thrive on fussing and fighting where most nations collapse into anarchy when their folks just get mad. Look, the US is ALWAYS somewhat polarized. This is most evident in the bases of the major political parties. The hardcore bases barely agree with each other on the time of day and sometimes will argue that just for spite. This is really normal. … Continue reading “How Polarized is the US Really?”

Is the New York Times Attempting a Coup?

As such, nope. But they very well may be attempting to sabotage the current administration in an attempt to render a duly elected president powerless for the duration of his last term. Overly dramatic? Maybe. We’ll know by Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Yes, that’s a very specific date. It’s roughly seventy-two hours from The New York Times unsupported claim that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth violated national security by including his wife and brother on a Signal group that dealt … Continue reading “Is the New York Times Attempting a Coup?”

Will Europe Rearm?

Yes, kinda, but mostly no.  I watched a video from Caspian Reports Monday morning about Europe’s ongoing efforts to rearm and decrease their dependency on American defense. Funniest video he’s ever done. I kept cracking up and had to stop the video a few times so I wouldn’t miss anything. Unfortunately, it wasn’t supposed to be funny. Don’t get this wrong. I like Caspian Reports and he does good work. I definitely recommend it as a good source for basic … Continue reading “Will Europe Rearm?”

Putin Doesn’t Seem to Have Gotten the Memo

Good grief. If Putin thinks he’s bringing his A game he better have something special up his sleeve. Playing dominance games with Trump is playing with fire. Dominance games? The silly stunts like being late for meetings or in this case a phone call and making others wait for you. It’s the political version of fighting for pole position. There are a lot of times when this sort of nonsense actually is important. When your country’s economy is about to … Continue reading “Putin Doesn’t Seem to Have Gotten the Memo”

VICTORY!

Being gracious in victory is more important than being gracious in defeat. We’ll get back to that very important thought. In the meantime WOO HOO!!!! We won!!! Yippee! The cherry on top was how hysterically wrong the analyses based on the polls were! I am not sure which made me more nervous: that Trump might not win or that the stupid polls might actually be right. Broken clocks are right twice a day. They make you look stupid for a … Continue reading “VICTORY!”

Looking at the Polls and Wishing I Weren’t

I considered just dumping the blog below this one because it is from last week and I didn’t get around to posting it on time but it shows my work and how I decide what to review when I’m looking at polls. Aggregators like Real Clear Politics are useful because they’ve already hunted down all the wild polls, but averaging is just dumb. I will ignore the average. There are so few good enough polls available right now that I … Continue reading “Looking at the Polls and Wishing I Weren’t”

Can Harris Win?

Duh, of course she can. At this point her only hope appears to be that most of Trump’s supporters decide not to vote, but that would give her the victory. Any hope in a storm, I suppose. I realize the three of you that clicked on this are only here for the proverbial popcorn and because you wanted to yell at me in the comments, but the point is still important. People are naturally lazy. Civic duty loses out to … Continue reading “Can Harris Win?”

Harris IS Losing

The three of you who have followed me for more than a week will probably already know that I believed Harris was in fact behind despite what the polling seemed to indicate. Tune in Friday for the long version of why polls are so bad, but today I’m basing my new assessment on a different piece of evidence. I am now convinced that Harris is trailing much worse than we have been lead to believe. I’ve been couching my analysis … Continue reading “Harris IS Losing”

Why Are the Democrats so Desperate?

Okay, let’s get the important stuff done first. I was wrong about the debate – it was pretty lackluster. For political junkies it had lots to chew on but normal people probably found it kinda so-so. Harris performed better than expected – a lot better – and Trump showed a couple flashes of anger. He’s more entertaining on Twitter. Can’t get ’em all right. But owning one’s mistakes is the first step to not making the same stupid ones again. … Continue reading “Why Are the Democrats so Desperate?”

We Won’t Forget, 9/11/2001

It was twenty-three years ago. Seems like yesterday. Still doesn’t seem completely real. It wasn’t the first attack on the Twin Towers. In 1993 a truck bomb was set off in the basement of the North Tower, killing six and injuring over one thousand. The towers would reopen in less than six weeks despite the heavy damage. It was a deadly prelude to the September 11th attacks. I had heard about the first plane just before leaving for work as … Continue reading “We Won’t Forget, 9/11/2001”
