Can Harris Win?

Duh, of course she can.

At this point her only hope appears to be that most of Trump’s supporters decide not to vote, but that would give her the victory. Any hope in a storm, I suppose.

I realize the three of you that clicked on this are only here for the proverbial popcorn and because you wanted to yell at me in the comments, but the point is still important. People are naturally lazy. Civic duty loses out to binge watching “The Chosen” (no spoilers! I haven’t watched it yet!) if we can convince ourselves that our little vote doesn’t count.

Seriously, we have GOT to improve our first grade education. Didn’t your teacher tell you that you have to count every member of a set to get the right answer? Voting is the same way. EVERY vote counts. Negation only works in algebra. You hated algebra, right? Okay then, let’s stick with elementary school math and count all the votes.

But, but there are so many! Surely one vote doesn’t matter?

Guess again. First off, it’s never ‘just one vote’. If you’re thinking about not bothering, so are fifty others just like you. If you kick it in gear and vote, most of them will, too.

Statistics are so weird, huh? Never mind, the principle is that each member of the group represents that group at least in part. So if you get off the couch, odds are you aren’t the only one who decides not to sit it out because ‘one vote doesn’t matter’.

Second, elections have been won by one vote. Remember, you aren’t just voting for president but also all those down ballot offices, including House and, in 2/3d’s of the states, Senate. Electing the guy you want does precious little good if you don’t help send him a like minded Congress. It’s also your chance to vote against that jerk of a mayor you have or to vote for the school board member that does a great job.

It’s true enough that presidential elections have never come down to a single vote, but they have gotten insanely close. Ten thousand sounds like a huge number but it’s nothing when two million people are voting in a given state. Remember, all but two states are winner take all: every elector of that state goes to the winner of the popular vote in that state. States go by only ten thousand votes occasionally and by less than fifty thousand a lot more often than you’d like to think.

You, Dear Reader, are one of those ten thousand. No good kicking yourself when the wrong person gets elected because you didn’t think your vote mattered.

Your vote matters. They all matter. We elect based on the number, not the percentage.

So, if you’re reading this – or lazily watching the video and haven’t noticed the snarky apron comments – and trying to decide if you need to vote, let me help you out. OF COURSE YOU NEED TO VOTE!

Believe me, those of us who trudge to the polls are not impressed when those who didn’t bother complain about who won. If my little disabled, no longer drives, can’t vote by mail backside can go to the polls, stand way too long, fill out that ballot, mutter about the stupid things my state does, have to have help getting out of those stupid little banquet chairs, and then walk out with my little ‘I voted’ sticker, so can you.

The only hope Harris has is that more of her demoralized, unenthusiastic voters will vote than will Trump’s energized, motivated voters. If the polls are right, it won’t take many people deciding not to vote for an upset.

Let’s face it, most of you reading this are Trump supporters. Is Harris likely to win? I seriously doubt it. Can she win? Absolutely. The irony is her path to victory depends more on Trump’s supporters than her own. If you want Trump to win, vote. If you want to wake up the day after the election to the disappointment of a Harris victory, don’t vote.

To the one lone Harris supporter making it this far, congratulations. The same goes for you. However. Harris can win one other way, if the polls are correct, and that is by her voters turning out in droves. So, vote yourself and drive all your friends to the polls. I won’t lie, it’s kinda uphill at this point, but I was the only Republican who went to sleep on Election Night 2016 believing Trump would win despite what the early returns were showing. Upsets do happen.

Because people vote.

Spread the word!
