Stupid Darkness…

It’s easy to complain – heck, it’s almost a national sport because we’re all so good at it! But seriously, it’s so much easier to complain than it is to do something about the problem. Especially when that problem is political. We’re taught not to talk about politics or religion – as if avoiding the subjects somehow makes them less contentious. If anything, it makes matters worse because inevitably the subjects come up and we are so unused to discussing … Continue reading “Stupid Darkness…”

Cancel Culture: Elitism by any Other Name

There are some who legitimately feel that some ideas are so morally wrong that they should not be allowed in society – at all. These are the misguided – which seems to translate into ‘college students’ of late. These aren’t the real problem – misguided people can learn the error of their ways like any other human being. These are the folks those of us who believe free speech is a God given right should be talking to – because … Continue reading “Cancel Culture: Elitism by any Other Name”

Who Are You, Anyway?

At the time of this writing, probably only friends and family will see this but I’m very much intending to develop a much wider audience. That translates to I’m writing to you, dear, very bored, reader who stumbled on this old post probably in the early morning hours because you can’t sleep. My best advise to you is get a magazine, go sit up and read something even more boring than this until you get sleepy – and quit using … Continue reading “Who Are You, Anyway?”

When the Going Gets Tough

The tough get going. That phrase was never intended to mean ‘going to run away’ but to stand and fight. Fight for the freedoms they cherish. Fight for the principles they believe in. Fight for the country they love. Fight the good fight. Does that mean grab your musket and head for the hills? Not hardly. There’s a lot to do – many fights to fight – before we raise a hand in anger. That’s the beauty of the the … Continue reading “When the Going Gets Tough”

We’re Winning! (No, You’re Losing.)

Okay, so only if you’re old do you remember Dr. Demento. And you have to be a bit of a comic fan on top of that to remember the satire of the original Christopher Reeves Superman movie using a Steve Winwood/Santana song titled “I’m Winning” – basically, the song was the backdrop to the fight scene with Zod with Superman supposedly singing “I’m Winning” while the good doctor interjected a more realistic assessment (No, you’re losing! You’re losing!). Spoiler – … Continue reading “We’re Winning! (No, You’re Losing.)”

Cheaters Never Prosper

I know – you’re rolling your eyes already. You’re thinking ‘cheaters get away with it all the time’ or, if your Christian, ‘well, I know they face judgment someday…’ – but you’re adults and that’s just an old adage we tell kids so they have some chance of growing up something like well adjusted. Only the phrase isn’t ‘cheaters never get caught’ – they do. Otherwise how would we know that they ‘got away with it’? The phrase is cheaters … Continue reading “Cheaters Never Prosper”

It’s Them – AND Us

There are a whole list of things that we can blame for the degradation of the modern world and especially for the loss of civility (that’s an old fashioned term for being able to talk to anyone at all nicely – even if the other person was wrong!) – media, internet, video games, the US Supreme Court (looking at you, Warren Court especially!) and you can pretty much insert a dozen more in that list. I don’t think there’s any … Continue reading “It’s Them – AND Us”

The Letter is all That Counts, Right?

So you’re red – or blue – all the way. You know what party you want to win and how you’ll vote. But do you know how the people you vote for will behave once in office? They have the right letter beside their name – but is that enough? Short answer – no. Long answer – heck no. Both parties are showing the effects of decades of voter neglect. Too many times we vote in the ‘important’ general election … Continue reading “The Letter is all That Counts, Right?”

Says Who?

This is the first post in a brand new blog that is intended to be a brand new enterprise – a new business. It took two months preparation getting to this moment of finally writing actual content. Who do I think I am? No one’s ever done it before. You can’t do that. It’s too hard. It’s too scary. The Evil Big <insert boogeyman here> will get you! There are too many hurdles to get over. Sound familiar? We’ve all … Continue reading “Says Who?”
